Day 1 Arrive at Colombo airport and meet your driver guide for the short journey to The Wallawwa, where you’ll overnight.

Day 2 Today visit the famous Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage and see the elephants bathing in the nearby river. Continue on to Sigiriya for a 2 night stay at Jetwing Vil Uyana.

Day 3 This morning ascend the 5th Century rock fortress Sigiriya. Rising 200 metres from the jungle, the magnificent Lion Rock was reportedly the innermost stronghold of the ancient fortified town. Climb to the top to view the world-renowned frescoes of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’. Later continue to Polonnaruwa, a former capital of Sri Lanka, and view the ruins of this impressive city, including the Royal Palace.

Day 4 After breakfast visit the incredible Dambulla Cave Temple. Built in the 1st Century BC, the complex of five caves includes the largest area of cave paintings in the world and a colossal 14 metre reclining Buddha carved out of the rock. Drive on to Matale, where you’ll walk through a spice garden and be given a demonstration of how spices are used in local products. Continue to Kandy for a 2 night stay at The Kandy House.

Day 5 Tour Kandy, the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings, taking in Kandy Lake, a gem museum and an arts and crafts centre; the rest of the day is at leisure. This evening visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and then watch a mesmerising cultural show.

Day 6 Head to Hatton for a 2 night stay at Ceylon Tea Trails, stopping en-route at Nuwara Eliya to visit a tea plantation and tea factory. Here you’ll taste what is arguably the best tea in the world. This afternoon is at leisure.

Day 7 Day at leisure. Go trekking, biking or white-water rafting, play tennis and croquet, relax by the pool or in the spa and enjoy traditional afternoon tea on the sweeping lawns, with panoramic views across the lake and mountains beyond.

Day 8 This morning you will be transferred to your chosen beach hotel or to Colombo airport.
